Illustration Friday - "80's" in Hong Kong

To me, 80's is an era of COOL prime time cartoons and Anime TV shows. I takes me a while to figure what to submit for this week IF. I don't want to copy cartoon characters, and I never pay much attention to 80's trends ... I was one of those little kids who like toys and toons more then pop and rocks stuff. So I have a hard time to come up with a growth up interpretation of the 80's. But finally, I decide I should go with what I am familiar - landmark and memories of HK in the 80's.

Every time I go to visit HK, I would visit places where I like to hang out as a kid. One of these places is the Star Ferry (bottom drawing). Early 80's before they build a subway system across the harbor, the ferry is the essential transportation from the island to the peninsular.

With the subwat today, the ferry becomes more like a tourist attraction for locals and foreigners. Nevertheless it will always be one of my favorite transportations in HK!! HE ! HE!! The top drawing is drawn while waiting in a line at the bank and drawing people around me. While I was waiting, the TV monitor shows a clip of Gundam. So I decide to make a Giant Robot out of it as well. Anime Giant Robot is definitly the hot topic among kids during the 80's. Can't remember a day on TV, there is no some kind of giant robot toons!! And Gundam is always every body's favourite. It's still very popular today! GOOD TIME!!
